Anyone who considers the new ".anything" domain names to be a "trend" or short lived will be in for a surprise.

In the late 90s early 00's, many people believed the Internet was a "trend", and that online presence was a ridiculous idea! Now look at the internet. Those that saw the potential in where the internet was going are the ones who benefited the most. pizza.com for example, was purchased for only $20 at the time everyone viewed the internet as a "trend", it recently sold for over $2 million.

The new .anything names are not a trend. It should be obvious to Internet users that ".com" names are running out, and the amount of users on the Internet grows each day. The internet is going to change: <a h...

After you have received your alert that your domain(s) are available, you must return to complete your transaction. There is some misrepresentation about the ultimate cost of your new gTLD. Some media sources have reported that the cost of such a domain will be upwards of $100,000 and this is not the case.

If you are returning to purchase a domain like www.sport.sports the cost in most cases will be what the average domain name costs now.

A company that intends on owning and managing all of the .sports TLDs might pay the suggested $100K+

Though the selection for your new domain can be many things, ICANN has already revoked some names. Currently, ".xxx" is not going to be allowed. In addition, trademarked names will not be available unless ownership is proven.

ICANN is also looking into charter minimums and type of format for new gTLDs. Example, 123.123 may not be available, because this can conflict with IP addresses. Also, “a.a” might not be available because it has too few characters and may not register correctly with servers.

This will likely not have a large impact on what will be available.

This is dependent on ICANN. ICANN was originally talking about a release of new gTLDs in the 4th QTR of 2009. Some have already become available and others are being revealed gradually as we approach the 1st QTR of 2010.

As far as we know, the process is moving fairly quickly, and the expected release should happen on time. However, there are no guarantees available.

We are an active participant in the ICANN community.

We often attend ICANN meetings, keeping up-to-date on their progress.

We monitor ICANN regularly, and review all new documents regarding anything with gTLD information.

Each month ICANN can release hundreds of pages of documents outlining new regulations or revisions on new gTLDs. If you are unfamiliar with the general process of how ICANN works, the information will have little reference to general public. We will try to be the link between the mountains of information and you the end user.
